Hudson New York Corn Whiskey Review

post icon

Hudson New York Corn Whiskey was one of the first whiskeys made in New York State following prohibition.

From the distiller, “We double distill the corn mash pure and simple. No other flavors or sugar added. It’s then bottled at 46% without charcoal or chill filtering, giving the crystal clear whiskey a silky smooth, creamy and clean drinking experience. It’s also distinctly corny – just like your wise-cracking uncle. Cut the wax and pour.”

Liquid Vacation – Literary Monday

post icon

I have long been a Tiki fan.  Way back in the day before the cocktail revolution, I dragged a bunch of friends to the original Trader Vic’s (well, it’s second incarnation since the original location burned down) in Emeryville, California.  We had a great time and I still have the coconut glass to prove it.  I have made a few returns but the coconut glass is not longer as easy to procure!

So, you can … Read more

Red Stag Black Cherry Bourbon Whiskey Review

post icon

Appearance: clear, medium minus tawny brown with thick legs

Nose: clean, medium minus notes of corn, kernel, black cherry, sourdough, cola, vanilla and oak

Palate: dry, smooth, integrated alcohol with medium notes of corn, kernel, sourdough, black cherry, maraschino cherry, vanilla and oak.  Medium minus finish of maraschino cherry.

Rating:  Average.  I like the smoothness of the texture of the alcohol.  But, the cherry extract isn’t integrated with the bourbon and you either get notes … Read more

At least someone is picking seasonally appropriate drinks to celebrate this summer. With record setting temperatures around the country, a refreshing beverage can help keep you cool.

The Daiquiri hails from Cuba where it was invented by an American businessman during the Spanish-American war. It has since acquired a … Read more

The Cocktails of the Ritz Paris – Literary Monday

post icon

Many moons ago, and not too long after we started DOTW (and before the recent cocktail revolution), we made a journey to Paris.  We were excited to try Harry’s Bar and at the Hemingway Bar at the Ritz, which was the modern incarnation of the bar at the Ritz. These were the famed watering holes of expatriate Americans in the 1920’s Paris I, like a number of people, had romantic visions of what it must … Read more

Broken Shed Vodka Review

post icon

Broken Shed Vodka is a premium whey vodka based in Wanaka, a small lake town in the mountains of New Zealand’s Southern Alps.  Broken Shed vodka has been four-times distilled, gluten and additive-free. Broken Shed Vodka is distilled from whey (the liquid that remains after milk has been curdled and strained in the making of cheese). Some call the whey, Milk Honey, what we found is it gives the spirit a very creamy texture.
