Dubonnet was created in the 1840s as a way to make Quinine more palatable for French Foreign Legion Troops. The Quinine helps fight Malaria. The Dubonnet Cocktail surfaced in the early 1900s. It came about as Dubonnet is not great straight,but pairs nicely with gin. Know as the Zaza when served over ice, the Doubonnet Cocktail has become a favorite of Queen Elizabeth II. It was also a favorite of her Mum’s.
The Queen likes hers with 2 ice cubes on top of a slice of lemon. It is said she has a Dubonnet Cocktail everyday before lunch.

60 years is a long time. We’ll drink to that!

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Dubonnet
  • 1 London Dry Gin (the Queen likes Gordon’s)
  • Lemon twist

Instructions

Add a few ice cubes to a mixing glass.
Pour in Dubonnet and gin.
Mix gently and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with the lemon twist.
