Ginger Rogers

I love cocktails where fresh fruit and a muddler meet at the bottom of a glass and Jason Lara’s Ginger Rogers cocktail could be a new love. Originally served at Social Hollywood in Los Angeles, Lara’s cocktail mixes Campari with muddled strawberries and clementine oranges making for a light, colorful Summertime treat. The Regal Ransom Cocktail

In preparation for the Kentucky Derby, I’ve created a cocktail named after the top contender—Regal Ransom.

This drink accentuates some of the bourbon’s undertones. Mixing bourbon with a syrup of honey and pears brings out the spirit’s sweeter side. The tea and lemon balance the sweetness and compliment the oaky qualities of the bourbon. Overall, this cocktail lets the bourbon shine through while still giving you something light and refreshing.

Cool-as-a-Cucumber Cocktail

It’s hot right now here in the Bay Area, so I created this cool and refreshing spring cocktail to beat the heat.

Cucumber, cilantro and lime combine to give this drink a mild flavor that makes it great for barbecues, pool parties … or just chilling out.

I have been seeing more bars offer cucumber cocktails, and I say it’s about time! You may even want to muddle some cucumbers into the drink. This would … Read more

To help celebrate this momentous occasion the folks at Matusalem Rum are sharing their Ultimate Cuba Libre recipe. Matusalem was first produced in Santiago de Cuba in 1872 and was produced there until 1959. The brand is now … Read more

This week we’re giving the classic mojito a Springtime twist! Mixology Monday XXXVIII is being hosted over at the Wild Drink Blog, and the theme is “Superior Twists.” The idea is add a twist to a classic cocktail that sends it over the top of cocktail goodness.

Strawberries and basil make a great combination—each has its own brand of sweetness. The two complimentary flavors are an ideal match for the light and refreshing mojito. What … Read more

Arizona Margarita

Even if you won’t be rooting for Arizona on Super Bowl Sunday, an Arizona Margarita is a great game day cocktail.

It’s made with prickly pear juice, which comes from a cactus common in the Southwest. Supposedly, prickly pear juice is great for preventing hangovers. Not sure if that’s true, but it’s worth a shot!

Cherry Sling Margarita

For the first Mixology Monday of 2009, we were challenged to use an ingredient that was new. At least new to us. Wondering what that could be I landed on a bottle of Agavero Licor De Tequila. A-64 proof tequila liqueur made from a blend of añejo and repasado tequilas, mellowed with essence of damiana flower.

I combined my Agavero with a Cherry Blossom Sling Margarita mix I picked up at Williams-Sonoma. I topped it … Read more

Long Island Iced Tea

This month’s Mixology Monday theme is “Guilty Pleasures”. There are so many cocktails that fit the bill, it was hard to pick just one. After going through the archive, I landed on the ultimate guilty pleasure – The Long Island Iced Tea. Equal parts of Vodka, Gin, Rum, Tequila and Triple Sec all topped with Sweet & Sour and Cola. This drink got me through college and beyond, but in my advanced years I gravitate … Read more
