Broken Shed Vodka Review

post icon

Broken Shed Vodka is a premium whey vodka based in Wanaka, a small lake town in the mountains of New Zealand’s Southern Alps.  Broken Shed vodka has been four-times distilled, gluten and additive-free. Broken Shed Vodka is distilled from whey (the liquid that remains after milk has been curdled and strained in the making of cheese). Some call the whey, Milk Honey, what we found is it gives the spirit a very creamy texture.

Started in a ‘broken’ down old shed on Lake Wanaka, the (slightly) renovated Shed is now used for tasting events. Broken Shed has received a score of 90 from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge and a silver medal at the 2011 International Wine and Spirits Competition.

Broken Shed Vodka Review

Appearance:  Clear, bright, water white with a silvery sheen

Nose:  Clean, medium notes of green apple, lemon, lime blossom, orange blossom, vanilla, white pepper and anise

Palate:  Clean, medium acid, alcohol is smooth yet fiery with medium plus notes of yellow apple, citrus blossom, blood orange, vanilla, caramel, white pepper and a touch of spice.

Rating:  Very good to outstanding.

A fragrant and flavor intense vodka (this is not an oxymoron). Beautiful mouth feel marrying crispness and viscosity.  This vodka is good for sipping neat (but I would recommend chilling the bottle), as well as in cocktails.  Try in a Bloody Mary or for a slightly spicy Lemon Drop.

ABV 40% / 80 Proof

MSRP: $30
