Wine for Day of the Dead

On a recent trip to Trader Joe’s, we came across a bottle of wine that we could not resist! As I have mentioned beore, I used to pick my wine based on the wine bottle. I will admit that I still indulge in this selection process when the wine is at a low enough price point. What can I say, I really like attractive and interesting wine bottles. I am not saying that all wine makers have to indulge me (or most of the public – believe me I have quite a few friends that also select their wine based on bottle attractiveness and interest). But, I do occasionally indulge myself.

As we were on an outing to Trader Joe’s (for those of you who are uninitiated into the Trader Joe’s nation, Trader Joe’s is known for its great wine values), the bottle was obviously in the right price point to take a gamble on indulging my bottle interest. Initially, I thought that the bottle might be perfect for Halloween but the more I looked at it, the more I knew that it belonged to the Day of the Dead. The bottle states “Dearly Beloved” and the bottom “Back to the very Earth” with a flower/plant skeleton face in the middle. It is truly an awesome bottle.

The wine, itself, wasn’t too bad. It was $6.99 a bottle and displayed nice, ripe black fruit, some bing cherry and mocha (coffee and vanilla). Dearly Beloved is a wine by DnA Vineyards in Mendocino County, California and is a blend of Syrah, Zinfandel, Grenache, Petit Sirah, Carignan and Sangiovese.

So, for this Day of the Dead, serve this wine at your party or bring it out to the graveyard with you as you celebrate and honor your deceased relatives.
