Tropical Itch

post iconThis week’s drink of the week was invented at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in 1957 by it’s famed bartender, Harry Yee. Mr. Yee was also responsible for another tropical favorite, the Blue Hawaii. While Mr. Yee may have invented the Tropical Itch, and they are mighty fine over at the Hilton Hawaiian Village (this isn’t our first visit), they have perfected down the beach at the Halekulani. Vampire Bite

Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz. VuQo Vodka
3/4 oz. Amaretto
3/4 oz. Malibu
2 oz. Pina Colada Mix (pineapple Juice and creme de coconut)
1 cup crushed ice

Directions:
Combine ingredients in a blender a blend for 10 – 20 seconds. Pour into a hurricane or other tall glass.

Monster Mash

Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz VuQo Vodka
3/4 oz banana liqueur
3/4 oz Creme De Cacao
1/2 ripe banana
4 pcs. ChocNut or other milk chocolate
2 scoops vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup crushed ice

Directions:
Combine ingredients in a blender a blend for 10 – 20 seconds. Pour into a Collins or other tall glass.

Dave Wondrich’s Zombie

Ingredients:
1/2 ounce white rum
1 1/2 ounces golden rum
1 ounce dark rum
1/2 ounce 151-proof rum
1 ounce lime juice
1 teaspoon pineapple juice
1 teaspoon papaya juice
1 teaspoon superfine sugar

Directions:
Add the ingredients other than the 151-proof rum to a shaker or a pitcher and stir. Add to a collins glass that is filled 3/4s full with cracked ice.

Mile High Mai Tai

Sticking with a Tropical Theme, this week’s drink is Ron Zacapa Ambassador, Robert Gonzales’ take on the classic Mai Tai.


Ingredients:
1 ½ oz Ron Zacapa 23
1 oz fresh lime juice
¾ oz Mandarine Napoléon
¾ oz Velvet Falernum
½ oz Orgeat
¼ oz All Spice Dram
3 Chunks of fresh roasted pineapple, muddled

Summer Soiree

Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Zacapa 23 Rum
1/2 oz ginger liqueur
4 dashes orange bitters
2 oz orange-guava juice

Directions:
Combine Zacapa 23 Rum, ginger liqueur, orange bitters, and orange-guava juice into a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Cover and shake until thoroughly chilled. Strain into a rocks glass.
