Just in case you need an excuse to drink Scotch: Today is National Scotch Day. So drink a dram to celebrate! Scotch is a polarizing whisky … most people either love it or hate it. I fall into the “love it” camp.
The strong character of this whisky often makes it a challenge to mix, but when it’s done right, a Scotch cocktail can really blow your mind. Here are a few to try:
The Dram Dirk
Created by Marcine Franckowiak at Highlands
1 ½ oz The Macallan 10 Year
½ oz fresh lemon juice
½ oz chipotle syrup
¾ oz Drambuie
Dash orange bitters
Shake, serve on the rocks, and garnish with an orange twist
The Orkney Chapel
Created at Death & Company
2 oz Highland Park 12 Year
¼ oz Lusteau Amontillado sherry
¼ oz sugar cane syrup
¼ oz Grand Mariner
½ oz dry vermouth
Stir and then strain into a coupe. Garnish with an orange peel.
