Kiwi ~ a Healthy Addition to Cocktails

kiwi Our furry little friend the kiwi is an often-forgotten fruit.

But there are many reasons we should incorporate these strange little guys into our diets … and our cocktails.

Tart, creamy and sweet all at once, this tasty fruit is also an amazing source of antioxidants and fiber.

Kiwi fruit also lowers the risk of blood clots and reduces the amount of fats in the blood.

Oh, and let’s not forget its beautiful, bold color and striking black seeds.

Why not freeze chunks or slices of kiwi into your ice cubes for a dramatic look that also tastes sweet?

Here are two gorgeous, tasty cocktails that give you a fun way to enjoy the health boost that kiwi provides.

Flight of the Kiwitini

2 oz. vodka (use citrus or berry flavored vodka for a twist)
3/4 oz. lime juice (fresh is best)
3/4 ounce simple syrup
1/2 kiwi fruit, peeled

Muddle the kiwi with the simple syrup. Add vodka and lime juice. Stir gently and pour over crushed ice in a rocks glass.

Cut wheel slices from the other half of the kiwi and use as a garnish. You can also cut chunks of kiwi and put them in the drink, if you like it chunky.

Kiwi Mojito

1 medium kiwi, peeled and coarsely chopped
4 mint leaves
1/2 oz. simple syrup
2 oz. light rum
1/2 oz. lime juice (fresh is best)
ice

Puree the kiwi until smooth. Muddle the mint leaves with the simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice. Add add the rum, lime juice and kiwi puree. Shake well and strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Garnish with a slice of lime.
