International Cachaca Day

Today June 12th, marks the anniversary of a tragedy committed over 250 years ago.

In 1744, the Portuguese Crown declared that the production, distribution, and sale of cachaça, Brazil’s noble spirit, would be illegal in the Portuguese Colony of Brazil. Fortunately for us all, the Brazilians rebelled and the virtues of cachaça won.

Still over 250 years later, cachaça, is still being tortured. Why, in many countries, including here in the United States, cachaça is … Read more

The Glass Makes the Drink

At the recent Nightclub & Bar Conference in Las Vegas, I had the pleasure to attend a seminar lead by Georg Riedel. What a treat, not only did I learn firsthand from a master about fine glassware and how it enhances all types of spirits but I learned how the Reidel family figured it all out. Said Greog to my question, “We’ve been doing this a long time.” And they have the family-run Austrian company … Read more

Booker’s Bourbon Review

Booker’s Bourbon is serious bourbon for serious bourbon lovers.

It is “uncut, unfiltered, straight-from-the-barrel” bourbon — over 120 proof. So you don’t just pour it into a glass and gulp it down.

It is a rewarding experience, but there are a few things you have to do before you can enjoy the intense charred oak and honey flavor.

If you’ve ever wondered if decanting — pouring the liquor into an open glass container to sit … Read more

Remy V.S.O.P Bottle by David LaChapelle Review

Remy Martin recently partnered with artist David LaChapelle to create
a limited-edition VSOP bottle that unleashed the youthful energy of Remy Martin VSOP. Remy also asked LaChapelle to draw on the cognac’s origins, the cabaret scene at Parisian nightclubs during the Jazz Age. What he came up is a stunning bottle featuring a sensual woman dancing in a vibrant, intensely colored jungle with a powerful leopard leaping through the air.

Only 150,000 of these bottle … Read more
