This week’s drink of the week is an ode to the 1934 film, The Thin Man.  We picked 1934 as it was the first year after the legalization of booze and no movie better depicts cocktail culture than The Thin Man.  While the Thin Man was nominated for many awards that year, it didn’t clean up at the 7th Annual Academy Awards – the awards went to It Happened One Night.  Yet, today, The Thin Man is still celebrated as the epitome of cocktail elegance.   Nick and Nora celebrated booze and marriage, and Nora became the model for the tipsy woman in screwball comedies.

One of Nick’s famous quotes from the movie occurred while he was instructing a bartender on how to make a martini.  Nick instructed  “[a] Manhattan you shake to a foxtrot, a Bronx to a two-step, but a Dry martini you should always shake to waltz time.”  In homage to The Thin Man and the enduring legacy of the Academy Awards, this week’s drink of the week is a classic Dry Martini.

Ingredients
