Wine for Day of the Dead

On a recent trip to Trader Joe’s, we came across a bottle of wine that we could not resist! As I have mentioned beore, I used to pick my wine based on the wine bottle. I will admit that I still indulge in this selection process when the wine is at a low enough price point. What can I say, I really like attractive and interesting wine bottles. I am not saying that all wine … Read more

Gitane – A Sherry Spectacular

I have recently become interested in wine based cocktails (and DOTW plans to bring you a new series on wine based cocktails soon) and we went out on a scouting mission. It’s actually not that easy to find cocktail programs that are based around wine. Sure, you get a ton of places offering champagne cocktails or that use vermouth, but it’s rare that they go beyond that. …Read More

Fearing French Wine

post icon

I will admit that French wine scares me. Even after all the wine classes I have taken, France remains the great unknown and it seems unknowable. But I also realize that if I am going to be remotely close to becoming a wine goddess, I will need to know France. I will have to embrace France.

It is this realization that spurs me to take two actions. First, I need to figure out my issues … Read more

International Grenache Day

post icon

Until recently, I didn’t realize that there were days dedicated to grape varieties. It’s kinda weird but I kinda like it! I felt horrible when I missed Cabernet Sauvignon Day on September 1 of this year and vowed I would never miss another (just kidding—I already know that I will). Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across International Grenache Day scheduled to go down on September 23. I needed to make sure that I captured … Read more

Warehouse clubs typically pass along great deals on wine as they have very little markup, buy in large quantities (to get the best prices possible) and get favorable pricing from distributors. While you may not be able to consistently buy your favorite bottle of wine (or favorite winery) at discount clubs, they offer a variety of wine … Read more
