New Years Eve Survival Tips

Monday, December 29th, 2008

nye.jpgNew Years Eve is upon us, several nights where we can all let loose and still have a day to recover. I thought we should take a moment to cover the basics for survival of all the drinking to ensue.

First, an article on mixing great drinks at home, not only will this help stretch your drinking budget, but using fresh mixers and premium spirits will help to ease that New Year’s Day Hangover. Don’t know how much liquor to buy for your party? We’ve assembled an easy to follow cocktail party check list just for you. As for drink recipes we’ve got tons, you all know that, we suggest picking 3 or 4 to make. Maybe a Martini or two? Don’t forget the food.

What’s next, where to go what to do, for that we like Yelp. Real reviews from real people, so take them with a grain of Salt. Once you are out remember to drink responsibly, it is bad form to be out of control drunk, and not classy either. We have a few tools to help you gauge your consumption, like this breath alcohol calculator and this blood alcohol chart. Print it our and take it with you. Use these as tools to as a reality check while drinking. If you plan to drink anything, just don’t drive.

What about the New Years Day?

Hangover Helpers come in all varieties, some you wouldn’t imagine. We haven’t tried them all, so be careful and remember the best hangover cure is to not over do it. To fill you belly while watching the Bowls, we’ve got some easy to make snacks.

Champagne Cocktails are great for the left over Champagne, we discuss in this recent post.

Remember to be safe out there, stay alert and have fun!

Partida Tequila

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

partida.jpgOn a sunny San Francisco afternoon I first appreciated the smooth mellow flavor of this superior tequila.

I first savored the deep rich flavor of the amber Anejo. Delicious in its mellow tones, and yet sharp in its effect, this Anejo should be a must for any lover of fine tequila.

Next I enjoyed the enticing Blanco. Sipping a shot made me think of those days long ago lounging in Tahoe enjoying Spring! Light and fresh the taste was like the breeze off that pristine lake.

Last I sipped the intense Reposado! This top shelf winner made me dream of a Saturday night out in the clubs. Its flavor made me dream of a dark haired girl on a moonlit night. Thank you.

Both the presentation and flavor of these great Tequilas reminds me of something new and special. A quality for which we all know San Francisco is famous. Muchas Gracias Senor Shansby for bringing us these unique Tequilas.

St. Patrick’s Day Toast?

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

shamrockbut11.gifEnjoy some of Colum Egan, Master Distiller of Bushmills Irish Whiskey, favorite Irish toasts this St. Patrick’s Day.

“The most important aspect of any toast is the words themselves,” says Egan. “The toasts are often short poems, mixing great tidings with a bit of whimsy and a large dose of Irish charm.”

A favorite of his is and mine:

“May your blessings outnumber the Shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you wherever you go.”

Colum’s toasts are available at 1-800-BUSHMILLS
