Killer Halloween Drinking Game

Friday, October 17th, 2008

ghostfaceStaying in with friends and a good (or bad) movie for Halloween? Here’s a Halloween drinking game to accompany your home horror film screening. It works best with slasher films such as “Halloween,” “Scream,” “Friday the 13th” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

Since there are more than a few rules to keep track of, you may want to split into two teams and divvy up the “one drink” rules and then all share the “two drink” rules. You can add rules specific to the film you’re watching.

Take one drink every time:

  • You can see the killer but the character on screen cannot.
  • The victim runs up a flight of stairs.
  • The victim locks him/herself in a bathroom.
  • A character says “I’ll be right back.”
  • There is a false scare.
  • People decide it is a good idea to split up rather than stick together.
  • One character comforts another and assures them “it’s all over now” when it clearly is not.
  • Someone opens a door and a body falls out.
  • Anyone drinks alcohol.
  • A victim trips while being chased.

Take two drinks every time:

  • The killer speaks. (This doesn’t include talking on the phone.)
  • The killer actually runs.
  • A victim is killed during the day.
  • Someone thinks the killer is dead and unwisely goes to investigate the body only to discover he is still alive.
  • A character hides under the bed and witnesses the killer murdering one of the other characters.

dotw logoMimicking the look of classic candy corn, this dessert cocktail would be a sweet ending to an evening of Halloween marauding. Trick-or-tini

Trick-or-Tini

1 part coconut cream
1 part tangerine flavored mixer (suggested, Stirrings Tangerini)
1 part banana liqueur
Splash of white rum

Dragon’s Blood Punch

Friday, October 10th, 2008

dotw logoWhat Halloween party is complete with out a putrid punch? This one promises to keep the mob under control and keeps you from having to serve them.

punch cup

Dragon’s Blood Punch

1 750 ml bottle vodka
1/2 cup Orange liqueur
6 cups (48 oz.) red fruit punch punch
6 cups apple juice
6 cups cranberry juice
2 liters ginger ale.

Chill all ingredients the day before. An hour before sevrving, combine everyting in a punch bowl. A large soup pot will do in a pinch. Stir well and ad ice. We recommend using a block of ice as it will melt slower than cubes. It also looks cool. The icy hand is a great way to introduce ice. Serve in punch cups.

**6 cups is approximately 1 can/bottle of juice

Crystal Head Vodka

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

crystal skull vodkaDan Aykroyd’s new Crystal Head Vodka is making it’s rounds on the Internets. Why shouldn’t it. Even if the vodka is no good, the bottle is a glass skull! Who would want to have few glass skulls around the house. The vodka comes complete with the story of the 13 Crystal Heads.

Aykroyd explains,

“brought together, the Crystal Heads are said to contain vast knowledge and enlightenment capable of unlocking our most enigmatic ancient mysteries. Alone, each is believed to house radiant psychic energy, which has magical powers and healing properties.”

See him expound on the story and the making of the quadruple distilled vodka in the video below.

Crystal Head is the “IT” favor for any Halloween party this year.

Halloween Cocktails for 2008

spooky_cocktails.jpgKahlua and Skyy Vodka are helping us get ready for Halloween with a slew of new creepy cocktails and dastardly drinks.

Before we get to the drinks, enjoy this bit of Halloween history.

Long before Halloween was associated with bobbing for apples and jack-o-lanterns, it was recognized as the eve of the cold winter season, which people believed brought about evil spirits that would damage the warm summer’s harvest. This Pagan Celtic celebration was called Samhain, and the Celts in the British Isles donned costumes to ward off trouble from the ghosts of the dead. The term Halloween is shortened from “All-hallow-even,” as it is the eve of “All Hallows’ Day.”

Drink Recipes that Glow

Monday, September 29th, 2008

glowing.jpgI’m often asked how to make glow in the dark cocktails. This can’t really be done, but you can make blacklight reactive drinks and use glow in the dark accessories for some neat effects

Tonic water is made from quinine. This bitter tasting soda like water, is made from the bark of the Cinchona tree found in the Andes Mountains. It was originally used to treat Malaria. It helps to reduce fevers and leg cramps as well. The neat thing is that Quinine is also photochemical reactive. That means it glows blueish white when exposed to ultraviolet or blacklights. The fluorescent quality is best when you use a lot of tonic water in your drink. The following is a list of drinks to make that will glow.

Make these in a highball filled with ice. Use 1 oz. of liquor in each.

Vodka or Gin & Tonic

Nuclear Fallout
Blue Curacao & Tonic

Austrian Hussar
Apricot Brandy & Tonic with a lemon twist

Red Tonic
Vodka, Grenadine, Lemon Juice & Tonic

Marmalade
Orange Curacao & Tonic

Mind Eraser
Vodka, Kahlua & Tonic (instead of Soda)

Gin & Pink
Gin, Bitters & Tonic

Long Vodka
